Naples, 18 May – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MedCities, on the occasion of an official visit  to Naples by Mr. Josep Canals Molina.

MedCities is a key network of Mediterranean cities that supports local governments in their strategic priorities to achieve sustainable urban development. One of the main missions of MedCities is to become the voice of the local authorities from the 3 shores of the Mediterranean basin.

The meeting offered an excellent opportunity for the representatives of PAM and MedCities  to exchange ideas for collaborative actions, such as, for instance, contributing to the Barcelona Convention meeting of the Mediterranean Sustainable Development Commission and working together head of the 23rd Meeting of the Parties of the Barcelona Convention. MedCities was also invited by PAM to participate in the 2nd edition of the PAM Economic Forum, which this will focus on support to entrepreneurship and   green energy transition in the euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region, and that will be held next Decemberin Morocco. Mr Molina offered the crucial expertise of Medicities in sharing local governments’ perspective at the Forum vis-à-vis the green transition and SDGs.

Additionally, MedCities’ Secretary General presented policy proposals regarding biodiversity, the circular economy, and sustainable tourism resulting from the Interreg EuroMED projects. PAM and MedCities also reiterated the need to jointly promote further social cohesion and combat gender inequalities in the region.

PAM also facilitated the organization of a bilateral meeting between the Secretary General of MedCities and the Mayor of Napoli, Prof. Gaetano Manfredi.

PAM remains committed to promoting a holistic approach in addressing today’s global challenges, which should involve international and interregional organizations, national governments and also local authorities, in line with SDG 17.//
