Interns and Researchers at PAM for a Mediterranean Experience

Since its establishment, PAM has hosted over 70 interns of various nationalities, including Lebanese, US, Italians, Russians, French, Belgians, Moroccans, Palestinians, Romanians, Tunisians, Germans and Maltese citizens. Most of the Europeans have come through the Erasmus+ programme, the EU funded Leonardo programme and other Regional Funding Schemes. Others have undertaken an internship at PAM as part of their post graduate studies, National Funding Mechanisms and the PAM’s own scholarship fund. Internships have varied from a minimum of three months to over one year.

PAM's internship program has always contributed a great deal to the unique experience acquired by the interns and to the success of the Assembly. The exchange of different opinions, cultures, impressions and experiences has always been very important to PAM and contributes to a lively, profitable and productive working environment. Through an intensive integration into the daily work of PAM and an active participation in problem solving, the interns have the opportunity to get to know the structure and working methods of an international parliamentary assembly, like PAM is, in order to get the maximum benefit out of their stay. It is of particular importance to entrust the trainees with tasks and responsibilities, comparable to that of a UN JPO, which both encourage and challenge them.

The tasks, therefore, include general support in the organization of conferences and events, administration, legal issues, research on current political issues, and drafting of background documents. The interns work closely with the officers responsible for the three Standing Committees, and therefore have the opportunity to gain a broad insight into the work of the Assembly.

New Internship programme offered at the PAM Regional Office in San Marino

PAM, as part of its role as the leading international parliamentary organization in the Euro-Mediterranean region, particularly in promoting cooperation and dialogue among its Member States, wishes to facilitate further interaction within and among students, young researchers and universities, by sharing this offer through its established Academic Platform, and keeping its commitment to facilitate mobility for students in the Euro-Mediterranean region, as well as contributing to the academic sector by offering the PAM Secretariat’s experience to researchers, PhD and Master Students.

Each internship, which lasts from a minimum of three to a maximum of twelve months, will be offered on a rolling basis, and with starting programmed in January, March and September every year.

The interns will be supervised by a PAM professional staff member, and serve as Junior Researcher dealing with programs, events and research developed within the framework of one of the three Standing Committees of PAM (1st Political and Security; 2nd Economy and Environment; 3rd Human Rights and Migration).

Internship are open to all nationalities (however, Italian citizens should pay attention to the criteria of the Erasmus, if they wish to apply within the framework of that program).
