PAM participates in the 2023 OECD-IEA Global Forum on the Environment and Climate Change

21-22 March 2023, Paris, France – The Climate Change Expert Group (CCXG) of the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) convened the 2023 edition of the Global Forum on the Environment and Climate Change at the OECD Headquarters. PAM was represented by Hon. Dherar Al Falasi (UAE).

Every year, the CCXG gathers with the aim of promoting dialogue among key stakeholders and foster understanding of a wide range of critical issues that are relevant to the international climate change negotiations and implementation of the Paris Agreement.

This year, the Global Forum focused the on the global stocktake of the Paris Agreement, the Mitigation Work Program (MWP), and issues related to finance for loss and damage, especially in light of the Agreement reached at the COP27 last year on “Loss and Damage Fund for vulnerable countries”.

The event was the occasion for PAM to engage with high-level international experts and climate stakeholders on different mitigation and adaptation strategies, while discussing different “loss and damage” implementation plans.

Participants agreed on the need to raise awareness on the dangerous relation between sea-level rise, food security, damages to agriculture and land degradation, and on the need to implement adequate policies in this regard.

During the session dedicated to Mitigation, Hon. Al Falasi stressed the need to reinforce adaptation policies in developing countries to contrast the socio-economic impact of climate change, while recalling the importance of humanitarian aid to counter the immediate and near-term effects of global warming.

PAM remains committed to promoting climate negotiations, and to stay engaged with international group of experts on environment, such as the OECD-IEA Global Forum. In this context, PAM will also take part in the upcoming meeting of the OECD Global Parliamentary Network, which will focus on climate discussions, and to all other relevant international appointments leading up to the COP28 in the UAE.//
