The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) will conduct a large field mission to the Middle East on the first week of September, as decided at the 17th Plenary Session in Morocco.

The Mission sees the participation of over 30 delegates, representing 10 national parliaments and the PAM Secretariat.

During the visit, PAM delegates will meet with high-level governmental and parliamentary officials, and Heads of the UN specialized missions in Jordan, Palestine, and Israel.

The aim is to review with key actors recent developments in the region, identify specific actions to support confidence building and prevent violence, improve the living conditions and the security of the civilian population, through the instrument of parliamentary diplomacy.

Furthermore, as indicated at the 17th PAM Plenary Session, the Mission will also look at options for the organization of a new international parliamentary conference on the peace process, along the lines of that organized by the UN and PAM in Malta in 2009.//
