UPCOMING VIRTUAL PAM MEETING: “Post-COVID Economic Recovery and support to SMEs, Fintech, Venture Capital and Start-Ups"

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) will hold the Webinar Meeting “Post-COVID Economic Recovery and support to SMEs, Fintech, Venture Capital and Start-Ups”, on 8 July 2020, from 15.00 to 17.30 CET.

The high-level forum shall gather parliamentary delegations from the 34 PAM countries of the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulfs regions, as well as members of governments and representatives of the European Parliament, the World Bank, the United Nations, WTO, financial institutions, and the productive sector. This is in full accordance with the PAM’s mandate in contributing to the economic progress and sustainable development in the region. The aim is to discuss the specific challenges posed by COVID-19 to the economies of the region and the recovery options available.

Participants will share their views on the most effective policies and instruments put in place or required to address the challenges in the economic recovery phase, as well as the legislative actions adopted at national and regional levels to support the productive sector, including tourism. The meeting will also look at the implementation of the second phase of the PAM “Start-up Market” project, launched last year, as a key instrument to support entrepreneurs and employment.

Policy-makers and international experts will contribute to the debate. The panel includes, among others: H.E. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt; Hon. Liam Byrne, Chair of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF; Hon. Margarida Marques, MEP, Vice-Chair Committee on Budget; Ms Isabelle Durant, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD; Mr Raffaele Jerusalmi, CEO of the Italian Stock Exchange; Ms Alessandra Priante, Director of the Regional Department for Europe at UNWTO; Mr Bernardo Calzadilla-Sarmiento, Managing Director at UNIDO, Mr Sufyan Al-Issa, Regional Head of Operations for the Middle East and North Africa, WB Group; Mr Said El Hachimi, Counsellor at WTO; Mr Enrico Resmini, CEO of the National Innovation Fund of Italy; Mr Ayman Sejiny, CEO of Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector; Mr Massimo Falcioni, CEO of Etihad Credit Insurance; Prof. Alberto Dell’Acqua, Chairman of Italgas, Associate Professor at SDA Bocconi.
