PAM 16th Mediterranean Day: Innovation and Urban Sustainable Development

21 March 2024 - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) observed the 16th Mediterranean Day. Established on the occasion of PAM’s 3rd Plenary Session held in Monaco in 2008, this annual celebration serves as a platform to highlight the most pressing issues affecting the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.

This year’s theme, “Innovation and Urban Sustainable Development”, was selected following timely suggestions and exchanges with members of PAM national delegations, with a special contribution from Andorra.

The topic aligns with the activities of the Assembly to support new ideas, methods, and solutions that may have positive and significant impacts on urban communities and societies across the Mediterranean Basin and beyond. In consultation with its Member States, specific suggestions were raised about promoting sustainable practices in urban areas across the PAM regions to prevent and address the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation, which deeply affect all PAM Member States.

Among its parliamentary delegations, Andorra and Greece shared specific projects aimed at fostering national sustainable development, which are available at the following links:
