PAM Election Observation Mission to Lebanon

Beirut, Lebanon - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) for the Lebanese General election that took place on 15 May 2022.

The delegation consisted of PAM President, Hon. Gennaro Migliore (Italy), Sen. Marie-Arlette Carlotti (France), Sen. Fatma Zohra Abdi (Algeria) and members of PAM Secretariat.

On the first day, the delegation met with Hon. Chamel Roukoz, Head of the Lebanese delegation to PAM, who briefed PAM EOM about the Lebanese electoral process and the general political environment.

Later the same day, PAM EOM met the Supervisory Commission for Elections to discuss the electoral law, and the role of the Commission before, during and after the elections.

Lastly, PAM EOM was received by H.E. Bassam Mawlawi, Minister of Interior and municipalities of Lebanon, further discussing the security and logistics preparations of the general election, as well as the applicable sanctions and legal delays in case of proved irregularities.

On 15 May, the PAM EOM, divided in two teams, proceeded to observe the voting and counting process in many polling stations. The team that visited the southern regions, went to Tyre, Aley, Beirut-AlSaifi, Baabda-al Ghobeiry and Beirut. The second team visited central and northern Lebanon, namely Tripoli, Bcharre, Chekka and Beirut.
