PAM deployed an Election Observation Mission in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

3 October 2022, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) on the occasion of the BiH 2022 General Elections, which took place on 2 October 2022.

The delegation was composed by PAM President, Hon. Gennaro Migliore (Italy), Hon. Atay Uslu (Türkiye), Ms. Tuğçe Okumuş, Advisor of the Turkish delegation to PAM, and Ms. Federica Lollo,  Political Officer at the PAM Secretariat.

On the first day of the mission, the delegation participated in a meeting organized by the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC). The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize members of the  Electoral Observers’ teams from political parties, associations of citizens, and international organizations, with the BiH electoral system, including voting and counting, and the monitoring procedures.

The second day, PAM delegates met with Hon. Mehmedović Šemsudin, Head of BiH delegation to PAM, who gave an overview of the current political and security environment in the country.

On the election day, the PAM EOM visited polling stations in the FBiH and in Republika Srpska. The PAM delegation went to the polling stations an hour before their opening, in order to verify the preparation of the polling materials. In the evening, PAM delegates followed the closing of the voting and the counting of the ballots in a polling station in Sarajevo center.

EOM reported that, in the polling stations, the voting procedures were conducted regularly, with transparency, openness and discipline both of the voters and of the staff of the election committees.

PAM delegates wish to thank the authorities of BiH for allowing them to be a part of the election process, namely the CEC, as well as the BiH delegation to PAM for the kind advice and assistance.
