PAM delegation at UN General Assembly to explore further cooperation with the UN System on Mediterranean issues
A High level delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) is in New York to attend the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. More than 120 country leaders and representatives of international organisations will be present. The theme of this year’s Assembly will be ‘Making the United Nations relevant to all people’.
 
The delegation is lead by PAM President Hon. Pedro Roque and PAM Secretary General Ambassador Sergio Piazzi, and includes PAM Vice-President Hon. Amir Peretz,  Hon. Nathalie Amoratti-Blanc - Rapporteur on Human Rights, Hon. Sandrine Morch - Rapporteur on Migration, Amb. Mohamed Abu El Enein - Honorary President and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Amb. Shaukat Fareed - PAM Permanent Observer to the UN in New York, Amb. Majallie Whbee - Senior Advisor on the Middle East, Amb. Jean-Paul Laborde - Senior Advisor on Counter-Terrorism, Amb. Iqbal Riza - Senior Advisor on Political Affairs and Mr. Shay Gal.
 
In New York the PAM delegation will participate in major thematic side events and the General Assembly. A number of bilateral meetings will be held with Under Secretary Generals and Assistant Secretary Generals responsible for issues which are of particular interest to the Parliamentary Assembly, namely, Political Affairs, Development Programmes, Humanitarian Affairs, Peacekeeping, Counter-terrorism and the Sahel Region. 
 
The United Nations General Assembly had granted the Observer Status to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean in 2009 in recognition of its unique role in Mediterranean Affairs as well as at the international level. By this decision, PAM has been granted the right to occupy a seat in the General Assembly Hall, intervene in important debates, and participate in all formal consultation processes.//
