Statement by the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean
on bomb attacks in Beirut, Lebanon

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist bomb blasts in the Lebanese capital Beirut, which caused the death of a considerable number of persons and seriously wounded hundreds of others.

The Assembly expresses its condolences to the people, Parliament and Government of Lebanon, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

PAM invites all concerned, from the highest institutions to civil society, to manifest with determination their unity in the face of any attempt to destabilise the country and create strife.

PAM calls for those responsible for this terrorist act to be swiftly brought to justice.

PAM believes that all populations in the Middle East, through their representatives, must work together to overcome timeworn differences,  and understand that prosperity, peace and stability for present and future generations, depend exclusively on the wider acceptance of the common good in an open global society, based on mutual  respect and the consolidation of the rule of law, democratic principles and human rights.
