Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the Death of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel

Statement by the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the
Death of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) expresses its condolences to the people of Israel, the Knesset and the family for the loss of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Mr. Sharon will be remembered for his dedication to the State of Israel throughout his professional and political life and for the courageous decision to withdraw settlers and troops from the Gaza Strip, as well as when he announced at the UN General Assembly his decision to support the creation of the Palestinian State.

His legacy is an example that must be respected in the current difficult negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians, which must lead to a two State solution, whereby Israel and Palestine can live side by side in full security, peace and prosperity for both populations.

PAM will continue to support all efforts aimed at reaching peace and stability in the region and the Mediterranean as a whole.
