New German Ambassador to Malta visits PAM Secretariat
The German Ambassador to Malta, Dr. Hubert Ziegler, paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Dr. Sergio Piazzi, upon his appointment to his new posting in the Mediterranean island. Dr. Ziegler was welcomed by Dr. Piazzi who conveyed the Assembly’s best wishes for a fruitful mission in Malta.
The German Ambassador expressed the full commitment of his country in supporting PAM efforts in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region, particularly at this moment of transition and in the light of other international factors which influence the economic and social developments of the countries within the basin.
Discussions also focused on the outcome of the visit of the PAM high-level delegation to Washington D.C. in September, where meetings were held with representatives of the US Senate, Congress and Department of State, and to New-York, to attend the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly high-level segment, and to hold bilateral consultations with UN Senior officials.
The Secretary General also illustrated PAM’s current initiatives in the political and economic sectors in the region to assist those countries going through a process of constitutional and social changes and its role in facilitating and supporting UN High Level missions in the Mediterranean, especially those with a humanitarian aim.
