Parliamentarians from the Mediterranean for Morocco PAM Plenary Session Rabat, 28-30 October 2010

Members of parliament, including Presidents of national parliaments from the Mediterranean region, as well as representatives from International Organizations and Civil Society will convene at the 5th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on 28-30 October 2010. The event is hosted by the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean has established itself as the central platform for parliamentary diplomacy in the Mediterranean and through its Observer Status at the UN General Assembly has further contributed to highlight issues specific to the region in more international fora.
When referring to the region, many have chosen to speak about pre-existing differences, yet the area represents a unique experience of similarities, common history and overlapping cultures, which must be considered as positive factors towards further dialogue and unity.
The PAM Plenary Session represents the final act on the Assembly’s calendar for 2010. During the Plenary Session in Rabat, the delegations shall elect the new PAM President and Bureau for the biennium 2011-2012, as well as approve the program of PAM activities for the next 2 years. The delegates shall also adopt reports and resolutions prepared by the three PAM Standing Committees and their respective Special Task Forces and Ad hoc Committees, which were voted upon during the last Standing Committee meetings held in Belgrade, Serbia, on 25-26 June 2010,.
A number of key speakers in representation of International Organisations, will also address the parliamentarians on topics of particular interest to the Mediterranean region, such as peace and security, the environment, economy and trade and the alliance of civilisations.
The Plenary Session in Morocco will be another occasion where cultures will meet to inject further ideas, proposals and solutions aimed at using parliamentary diplomacy to establish peace and prosperity for all citizens of the Mediterranean.
