Within the framework of the 1st Standing Committee on Political and Security-Related Cooperation, PAM, on 24 November 2007, set up an Ad Hoc Committee on the Middle East.

Its main objectives are to monitor developments in the Middle East and determine the manner in which the Assembly, as a whole, could contribute towards resumption of negotiations to achieve a Two-State Solution, in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolutions and the international agreements.

Since 2011, it also monitors the developments in Syria, and assists as required.
